The Center for Child and Family Studies

Application Process

Families interested in the ECL program for their children may submit an application, accompanied by the administrative fee, at any time during the year. Children are enrolled in April for the following school year. We will keep each application on file until the child is enrolled, reaches kindergarten age, or the parent asks us to withdraw the child's name from the applicant pool. Occasionally an opening will occur at another time of year and a child from the applicant pool will be enrolled then.

Mail this application for the CCFS Early Childhood Lab School program with $30 application fee (check made out to "UC Regents"):   ECL Application (Adobe Reader .pdf format)

To meet the ECL's educational and research goals, we enroll a diverse and balanced group of children in each class. The following criteria are used to make selection and enrollment decisions:

photo of two teachers and egg-head sculpture on top of grassy hill with toddlers playing
  • Age
  • Sex
  • Ethnic and cultural background
  • UC Davis student status of parent(s)
  • Sibling relationship to children already enrolled
  • Special needs
  • Date of application

Children are NOT enrolled on a first-come-first-served basis. Decisions are based on the need to enroll children who will best help the program attain or maintain the diversity desired and the student/non-student ratio required. Once a child is placed in the program, s/he is automatically enrolled each term thereafter until withdrawn by parents or enrolled in kindergarten.

Families seeking other enrollment information or those who would like to schedule a tour may contact Molly Logan-Jones at (530) 752-2888 or

Please note that we receive applications for many more children than we can enroll.
